Richard Del Connor, The Hippy Coyote is living in Los Angeles... wherever he is parked.
In 2012 Coyote was stung by a scorpion after being hired to star in Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1.
In 2013, Shaolin Pictures is producing the action/comedy Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1 starring The Hippy Coyote.

How Many Days of Casting / Rehearsal / Principal Photography / Post-Production?

We were approved on our budget. Special effects was one of the last areas of concern.

Then there's that pesky post-production. Since our Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1 is using songs from the 1980s, 1990s, and... we have lots of analog tapes to convert to digital. We're still guessing at how much work that will be.

I stopped by what used to be FUTURE DISK SYSTEMS MASTERING LAB on Cahuenga Blvd. in the Hollywood Pass. They're something else, but when the owner found out that the designer builder (me) had stopped by -- he zipped over to meet me. "I've heard about you. I've heard what an amazing place this was and about how much of the world's music passed through here," congratulated the studio owner.

He gave me a tour of the building and allowed to look at my carpentry and studio designs. It was cool. Lots of memories. It was also a shame to see one of the mastering rooms being used backwards, because the acoustics weren't significant to the duplication machines. Oh well.

Still, I did design one of the most popular mastering rooms and two other clones of it. I drew the blueprints and walked them through the Los Angeles building department. I should have built something off that reputation but I was striving to be a rock star. When Mick Fleetwood would introduce me as, "Richard Connor The Carpenter," I would cringe. Even Stevie Nicks... But I wanted to be known as a songwriter, bassist, rocker... not a carpenter.

The owner of the old Future Disk Mastering Labs referred me to some people for the post-production of the movie.

1. -- Odyssey of American Zen: Adventures of the Kung Fu Cowboy - -

Kung Fu Cowboy Composer

On Father's Day I wrote another song, "Kung Fu Cowboy 2." It's got lyrics and rocks, unlike the original "Kung Fu Cowboy" song, that will be in the movie. I think this song will be in the sequel, Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 2.

I'm playing guitar everyday... so songs are starting to pour out of me again.

Another song I just wrote is "Rock Me Baby." Maybe I'll change the name to "Rock Me Hard." It's a really fun song. I played it for my daughter and she said, "I really like it just the way it is... but you should sing it an octave lower."

She's really smart, and very talented in music. As I've whined many times, I'm disappointed she dropped out of show business. But her advice was right. When I played her the "Kung Fu Cowboy 2" song she said, "The chorus is great. I really like the line "We'll do some qigong and a bong..." But daddy, the verses don't relate to other people enough. They need a way to relate to this song."

Once again I took her advise and penned a bunch more verses. I tested them on my son and Caitlin's boyfriend... NOW "Kung Fu Cowboy 2 " is a great song.

Homeless Vigilante

"I saw you doing Kung Fu in the park," a local shop owner said to me.

I'm working out more. I wish I had more students. But when I work out on my own I do what I want to do -- instead of what my students need to be taught. So it's more spiritual and improvisational when I work out alone.

One of my private lesson students invited me over to his house for dinner. His dog bit me and made a hole in the thumb of my right hand. It's going to be in the movie. There's a black spot around the hole.

He's lucky I didn't punt that dog into the fireplace.

Some people shouldn't have dogs because they don't train them.

Some people shouldn't have kids because they don't train them.

In both cases it's because the people weren't properly trained.

Stupidity is a disease we pass on to our pets and children. Violence is passed on from parents to children. Prejudice is passed on from parents to children.

If we had better parents in the world -- we'd have better children -- and safer dogs.

I was shopping for a guitar. Window shopping. I can't afford a toy guitar right now.

I found an interesting guitar. I have been thinking of it for for weeks now. It's a DEAN guitar. I'm not familiar with them.

I'll tell you more soon. This may be my next almost acoustic guitar I will or would own. It's not really an acoustic guitar. It's actually a "resonator guitar."

I started writing a list of requirements for casting the American Zen bandmembers. "Not married," I wrote.

Director Scott warned me, "I don't think you can do that."

So I added so many qualifications and time schedule demands that no one could be married and be in the band. You could, but your wife will dump you. Guaranteed.

I want to make a band that can conquer the world in 5 years. I will make this band that will conquer the world. Hee-hee. Scott added, "American Zen will be the best band in the world."

I am so anxious it's frustrating. I want to jam. I want to play. I want to perform...

The Barefoot Legend: David Carradine

I was invited to the Hollywood Museum opening celebration of David Carradine's exhibit. He had the coolest clothes!

It was really cool to see this memorabilia there. When I was a kid I never dreamed I'd actually learn Shaolin Kung Fu. I also didn't even consider the possibility that I could exceed him at Shaolin Kung Fu or be a Shaolin Disciple...

Wow.

The after-party was really cool at clothing designer Sue Wong's home. It used to be Howard Hughes' Hollywood castle. What an awesome place. I hung out in the "Jimi Hendrix Room." He may have written "Purple Haze" there?

History of Zen

Surprisingly, most martial artists aren't book readers? Well, a REAL martial artist is. Or at least a Kung Fu Master should enjoy reading books...

I've been trying to get any of my Kung Fu brothers and friends to read my book, History of Zen from A to Z, but none are anxious or willing... Oh well. They can stand at the back of the line when I sign autographs.

Obviously, I'm disappointed. I told a few of them about it to increase their interest in the book... but they just say, "Oh, that hippie Coyote..."

Director Scott has been reading different words/chapters of the book during our daily office work on the Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1. It was really cool HEARING my book and visualizing the images that were given to me when I wrote the book.

I asked Scott for his comments. He said, "It will definitely offend everyone." I pushed him for more comments and insights. He said, "It is a radically unique view of religious history." He also used words like, "unusual, controversial..."

I'll do an interview about the book. Watch for it!

Tai Chi KIDS in the Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1

We've been doing some preliminary casting and researching child actors.

Kung Fu Cowboy Rock & Roll Movie 1 will have some scenes of me teaching my kids Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Staff. Problem is, I need these kids to look good at it -- because my kids did really good Kung Fu.

My son Rory really impressed his Kindergarten teacher when he performed the entire Yang Style Tai Chi Short Form of Shaolin Chi Mantis for her. Daughter Ming won First Place awards in tournaments and performed Chinese Sword with me at Chinese New Year events.

I need to start training these actors because it may take more than a month for them to be proficient.

I've also been visiting some Karate dojos and talking to other Kung Fu Shifu about borrowing their students...

I'm really in heat. Every girl, that's healthy, is attractive to me.

Sheesh. Calm down doggy boy!

Can't help it. I shaved my beard yesterday. While Director Scott and I were waiting for our Tommy chili burgers, a friendly obese man looked at me then approached me, "I like your face."

Now if I can get girls to start... but where do we go? "Let me show you my rear bumper and my auto registration..."

It'll be nice to be able to date girls again. It'll be nice to be able to cook them dinner... and breakfast...

Homelessness has killed my dating mojo. I don't think any girl should be interested in dating me, unless she wants to give me a place to live. Americans in general snub and dislike homeless people. This homelessness is killing my male ego, partially.

Man Who Was a Mom

It was weirdly cool telling stories about being a Mr. Mom to some of my co-workers.

Most men don't raise their children. Most men don't see much of their children. I only have a dozen memories of my dad.

So when I realized I had accomplished something very rare -- spending time with my children and raising them - it was... almost satisfying.

When I am financially successful again I will certainly look back more fondly at the decades I spend cooking and cleaning instead of working and performing.
