  2008 is the launch of BUDDHA KUNG FU schools in Los Angeles, California, by Buddha Zhen.

Tujunga, California – May 5, 2008 - BUDDHA KUNG FU is a 10-stripe program with no colored belts or sashes.

"It's fun explaining how our school works," anxiously states Buddha Zhen. "People will ask me, "Are you a white belt?," and then I get to show them my sash and explain that in Buddhism, we teach that you are born pure, with Buddha Nature, so you start as a White Belt. Most of these blues stripes on my sash represent Kung Fu weapons you have to learn. So by the time you get to the top of this belt stripe ladder, you will be a Kung Fu Master who knows sword, spear, Kung Fu, Tai Chi, and Shaolin Zen Buddhism."

"We still maintain and will continue to use the same colored belt rank systems of Shaolin Chi Mantis and Tai Chi Youth," explains Buddha Zhen. "Only in the Buddha Kung Fu school are we eliminating the colored belt rank system. I feel good about this new system. Buddhism teaches that we are all born pure-- or white. And in Buddhism we are striving to become Buddhas, which I picture again as, white, so from white to white you just climb up this little blue ladder," Buddha Zhen demonstrates by holding out his white cotton sash with 10 royal blue 1/2" stripes on it.
