Kung Fu Cowboy was about Richard Del Connor, The Hippy Coyote, who is also Buddha Zhen Shen-Lang. The story of Coyote's Kung Fu development since 1980 was depicted with photos, stories and graphics. The ROUGH DRAFT of this book, KUNG FU COWBOY ORIGINAL DRAFT, was completed on February 4, 2009. This book then became the blueprint for this album. With Coyote going in so many directions, at the same time, it was a lot of work to sort out a storyline of his life and create a songlist for this album. It took many shapes as Coyote laid out his life, then simplified it into several different storylines. The album song lists are included in the KUNG FU COWBOY ORIGINAL DRAFT book. That following Summer of 2009, Coyote used the gymnasium of Crescenta Valley Park to record his drums. With his ProTools Mbox system and two microphones, Richard Del Connor produced a unique drum sound for the album. Rather than putting one microphone to the left and the other to the right, Richard invented another way to record drums. Record producer Richard Connor placed packing blankets on the linoleum floor with a cardiod microphone 8' in front of the kick drum. The other microphone, a condensor microphone, was up about 10' where it could pick up the tom toms, snare, and high hat. It sounds really cool--and huge. The remaining instruments were recorded in Coyote's crappy apartment when his neighbors were gone to work and the next door neighbor's air conditioner wasn't running. This was a difficult album to record, without sound isolation. Coyotes foam mattress was used to seal off the windows...
Fans were helpful. They sent encouraging emails and bought more books and records...but in March 2010, Coyote resorted to a free apartment on Skid Row, in downtown Los Angeles. Unable to cope with this "bottom of the barrel," he decided to wait until the Marshals dragged him out of the Montrose apartment as he resumed work on the LEVEL 4 = KUNG FU COWBOY PART 1 album.
During that magical month of May, Richard changed the storyline again. This time it was to transpose Coyote's autobiographical music album into a ROCK OPERA about Hiram Abif being murdered as he completed King Solomon's Temple, 3,000 years ago. This also enabled Richard to mix the album with the characters of this rock opera in mind. It worked. Richard Del Connor became a 3rd Degree Master Mason in February, 2009. This also led to the discovery of his "Masonic Kung Fu" martial arts dance Form he discovered that following summer on June 9, 2009. The Chinese Freemasons have been informed of this discovery and have begun helping Coyote uncover the origins of this Form which dates back to when the Japanese were invading China and...this will be the story of the next album.
