When I founded Shaolin Records in 1984 I was graduating the Tai Mantis Federation where I studied Shaolin Kung Fu, Yang and Wang Tai Chi, 7-Star Praying Mantis, and Tai Chi Praying Mantis Boxing.
I staffed my North Hollywood condominium with 5 to 8 interns daily for several years until I moved to Utah in 1992. Before moving to Utah, I gave daily Shaolin Kung Fu and Yang Style Tai Chi classes to all interns and Shaolin Records artists. It was really fun!
When I moved to Utah, the record company went into the closet as I began teaching Kung Fu and Tai Chi on a daily basis for elementary schools, middle schools, high schools, several churches, the Salt Lake Continuing Education Department, YWCA, a couple rehabilitation centers, maximum security prison, and at Liberty Park.
This marriage of Shaolin Kung Fu + American Blues music + Surf Rock + Classic Rock + Brit Rock + Spanish Classical music became the image and style of Shaolin Records. Oh yeah, and some Chinese and Mongolian music influences also.

I've only signed a couple of other acts to this record label. Most of the music is created by myself, and the music groups are bands that I was a member of.
My previous landlord commented about a record he bought of American Zen, "It makes you think."
